The Artitorium on Broadway isn’t your traditional art studio.  It would only make sense then, that the Artitorium Art classes aren’t your traditional art classes.

“TAM, The Art Museum of Idaho, does traditional art classes already, and they do a great job so we didn’t want to reinvent the wheel,” said Brandi Newton, the executive director of the Idaho Falls Art Council.

Instead, the Artitorium is offering more design-based classes, introducing young students to a new kind of art.

“The idea is that we’re going to talk about concepts in the design format so you can use the tools in the Artitorium as your version of a paint brush and your version of a pencil,” Newton said.

She said they plan to cover a wide variety of mediums to allow students to have different experiences all summer long and figure out what works best for them.

The art fun isn’t limited to just the student in class that day; family members of the student in class are able to play in the Artitorium at a discounted rate while they wait for class to get out of session.

“Families can take that hour and spend it there together instead of ‘Ok, I’m going to hurry up and drop this one off so I can run this one to that place,’” Newton said.

Classes fill up fast, so be sure to sign up well in advance; although the Artitorium does offer its Make It and Take It Saturday craft classes, which are included in the admission price and are available for anyone going through the Artitorium that day.

“The idea is that you don’t have to make a mess at your house – you can come make a mess at ours,” Newton said.
