The weather report is promising that Independence Day weekend is going to be a scorcher this year. If you’re on the lookout for an activity that involves not melting in the summer heat, head to the Real Pirates exhibit at the Museum of Idaho. Not only is it open for the holiday weekend, but there’s a discount on family admission, and plenty of cool air to go around.

You’ll spy the Museum’s pirate ship sailing down the streets of Idaho Falls at the annual Independence Day Parade on Saturday, featuring mischievous pirates reenacting scenes and singing songs from Pirates of Penzance. Snag a discount coupon from any of the volunteers following the float, and you can take your family to see the exhibit after the parade wraps up.

The Museum of Idaho is open for special hours on Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, July 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get a taste of a life of piracy with the story of the Whydah, the only fully-authenticated pirate shipwreck ever discovered in U.S. waters, as well as the ship’s fiendish crew. You can also get an up-close look at cannons from the ship, real pirate treasure, and much more.
