2040 Channing Way has seen restaurants come and go, but its newest tenant, Abracadabra’s Breakfast and Bistro, seems like it will be here to stay.
“I’ve been driving past this location for the past year and couldn’t figure out how such a prime location wasn’t doing any business,” said Josh Swain, Abracadabra’s co-owner.
A friend suggested Swain create a breakfast joint, and although initially apprehensive, Swain was soon convinced that this was the answer he had been searching for.
“I enjoy cooking breakfast,” Swain said. “It’s a lot of fun and there are a lot of items I’ve wanted to do over the years.”
When Swain and his two business partners opened Abracadabra’s in October 2015 after three months of menu planning and light remodeling, they simply flicked on the “open” sign and waited to see what would happen.
November was predictably slow, but by December, the word was out.
“December is when people found us, and the doors were kind of blown off,” Swain said. “We let the food do our speaking for us.”
