PRESS RELEASE
The Public Art Committee from Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation (IFDDC) has announced a trio of murals to be installed throughout downtown Idaho Falls. The Public Art Committee from IFDDC functions to organize and facilitate the efforts of installing public art throughout the downtown core of Idaho Falls.
The committee includes Catherine Smith, Miyai Abe Griggs, Chloe Doucette, Lexi French, Amber Deschamps, Alyssa Callantine (Shorty), Georgina Goodlander, Carrie Scheid, Lisa Schulz, Kimmon Richards, and Chip Langrek.
The new murals will be added to an exterior wall of The Villa Coffee House, Willowtree Gallery, and The SnakeBite Restaurant. Over 20 artists submitted unique ideas and the committee gathered to make their selections. The artist will be commissioned by the IFDDC.
The artists selected are:
- Kris Burnham's "I Love Idaho" piece located at The Villa Coffeehouse.
- Cherryn Wight's Butterfly mural located at The SnakeBite Restaurant.
- Dustin Lyon's historical depiction of downtown titled, “Beginning of the Future” will be on the Willowtree Gallery building and will feature a saturated color palette.
"We believe this is an opportunity to share the community artist members’ visions and talents to represent and honor our community and the rich history and future. Our goal is to facilitate conversations between downtown patrons and artists to create work that represents the unique qualities of Idaho and our cultures that make this city and downtown so beautiful,” says Catherine Smith, executive director of Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation. “We are excited to take the lead in installing public art downtown that will certainly result in lasting change. The downtown has seen significant growth in the last 18 months, and we are thrilled to be part of the efforts both as a catalyst for this growth and grateful recipient of the downtown experience."
