One of the greatest acts a human being can perform is bringing life into the world. Obviously, the central role in the birthing process is that of the mother, but a close second is the person charged with making it all unfold as successfully and safely as possible.

Meet Dr. Jeremy Whiting, OB-GYN, the latest obstetrics-and-gynecology physician to join the team at Leavitt Women’s Healthcare here in Idaho Falls.

Originally hailing from Sacramento, Calif., Dr. Whiting’s educational pursuits first led him to a degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University, followed by medical school at Texas Tech and a

residency at Reading hospital in West Reading, Penn.

It was only after a career-defining rotation during his third year of medical school, however, that he fully appreciated the most obvious reward of working in obstetrics: the chance to deliver babies.

“Helping patients bring their children into the world is extremely rewarding, exciting, and at times emotional,” Dr. Whiting said. “And I like that aspect of obstetrics and gynecology the most. You really form a lifelong impact and lifelong relationship with your patients.”

Dr. Whiting notes that from his first introduction, he knew Dr. Leavitt’s office was going to be a match made in heaven.

“Looking at all the practices that were opening and hiring for positions, we were immediately interested in Idaho as my wife was born and raised here,” he said. “And when I came out to visit, I knew that it was going to be a great fit for me.”

The doctors have also found common ground in their use of cutting-edge technology. Both providers have ample experience using robotics and other minimally invasive techniques.

“Specifically, we use the DaVinci robot for hysterectomy and other minimally invasive surgeries that would be otherwise

technically difficult,” Dr. Whiting said. “It's a great asset to the patient in terms of recovery time.”

Beyond his target residency experience, Dr. Whiting brings years of academic study and research experience with him to the eastern Idaho region, including studies in Antarctica as well as accolades for his research in menopause education.

“I'm really excited to be joining Leavitt Women's Healthcare,” he added. “Dr. Leavitt is so warm, caring and thoughtful, and he's hired some great staff and other providers in the office to compliment that.”

In addition to Dr. Whiting and Dr. Leavitt, the practice also has two midwives, a nurse practitioner and a physician assistant to round out the team.
