Downtown PARK IF is now monitoring the on-street 2-hour parking in downtown Idaho Falls with new technology in 
a marked UTV vehicle.
Downtown PARK IF, the parking department of Idaho Falls Downtown Development, purchased new technology to manage downtown parking more effectively last year with grant dollars received from the Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency. After two years of research and visits to other cities similar in our size, we launched the program last October 2019, to effectively manage the downtown parking. The rules for on-street parking did not change, only the process for monitoring the 2-hour parking limits is different. Here are some good details to keep in mind when planning a visit downtown.

Downtown has approximately 1,100 on-street curbside parking spaces. 93% of those spaces are 2-hour spaces

95% of downtown parking is free

There are approximately 3,400 off-street parking spaces in the surrounding parking lots. 588 of those are public spaces 2,466 of those are private (business, resident, other)

The fines for downtown parking citations has NOT changed

The hours for on-street parking have not changed. Those hours are: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Mon–Fri

Do take advantage of the free 2-hour parking curbside throughout downtown

Do use the smart meters or the App, ParkSmarter, to park in the paid parking lots, worry freeDo look for and follow parking signage posted throughout downtown

Use the underground parking garage at The Broadway development for parking anytime. This is public parking, open 24 hours a day. $2 an hour or $12 max per day
Parking in downtown Idaho Falls is not complicated and we hope it is not intimidating. We monitor the parking to keep the cars moving every two hours to allow for available customer parking. If we had our downtown parking spaces full with the employee or restaurant server or owner’s parked cars for the entire day or night, there would not be parking spaces curbside for customers or patrons visiting downtown Idaho Falls to shop, eat, or watch a movie or live performance.
The 2-hour turnover timeframe allows for the downtown customers to do their business. If 2-hours isn’t enough time for your visit to downtown, we encourage those longer stays to utilize the parking lots surrounding the downtown businesses. There are multiple options for free parking or $1/hour or $5/ all day parking.
