Summer is a great time to get creative in Idaho Falls! The Idaho Falls Arts Council has many different fun programs for families to get more involved in the arts:

ARTitorium on Broadway offers art classes for ages 5-12. With topics such as flowers and bugs, strange and unusual self-portraits, and colors and patterns, you’re sure to find something to suit every budding young artist. Each class meets four times over a two-week block, so it’s easy to plan around your summer travel.

Over at the Willard Arts Center, kids age 5-9 can join in the weekly drop-in Planet Arts classes every Wednesday at noon. This year, the theme is “Prehistoric Adventures’’ with everything from mighty megalodon salt paintings to dinosaur stamp footprints. Each class is an hour and costs just $3.

Families are always welcome at the monthly Idaho Falls Gallery Walk, which runs every First Thursday, 5-8 p.m. from May through October. Ten venues will join the Walk this year, each offering free admission and a variety of art to enjoy, including contemporary art exhibitions, traditional printmaking demonstrations, local artisan goods, and more. The Gallery Walk also includes downtown art murals and decorated traffic cabinets.

On Tuesday evenings, you can stroll down to the Greenbelt Stage on the Idaho Falls River Walk to see regional bands perform as part of the Bank of Idaho River Concert Series! Bring your own lawn chair and get ready to sing along or boogie on down to jazz, pop, ska, rock, and more from some of your favorite local musicians. Performances are every Tuesday at 7 p.m., mid-June through late August (weather permitting) and are free to attend.

Consider purchasing an Idaho Falls Adventure Pass! Available for families or individuals, each pass gets you one-time admission to the Museum of Idaho, the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park, the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho and ARTitorium on Broadway. This is a great way to explore some of the best cultural attractions that our town has to offer with one easy pass.

And finally, be sure not to miss the Roaring Youth Jam along the Idaho Falls River Walk! This year’s event will be August 12-14 and is themed “Under the Sea.” With 10 art tents offering projects such as potato masher turtles, coral reef sponge paintings, and pastel resist jellyfish, live performances on the stage every day, collaborative activities and a variety of local vendors, it’s fun for the whole family! Youth Jam runs 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day and is completely free. Many of the activities involve paint or glue, so be sure the kids “dress for mess!”
