The Idaho Falls Spud Kings are hitting the ice again this season with more grit than ever before, and with a new head coach. The new head coach, Anthony Bohn, is spending his 15th year coaching hockey at the Mountain America Center.
After spending over a decade coaching hockey, Anthony was drawn into Idaho Falls by the people in the community. “I’ve been in Idaho Falls for about a month, and it absolutely blows me away how passionate the people are for the Spud Kings. It's something I've never seen before,” Anthony said. “I've been in places that draw pretty well, but here people are so passionate about it. That's the thing that drew me to Idaho Falls, and that’s what's going to drive our team day to day and throughout the season.”
Before he stepped in as the Spud Kings head coach, he spent nine years coaching in the North American League, three years of professional hockey, and two years in the ECHL, a minor professional ice hockey league.
As the team gears up to compete on the ice rink, Anthony’s background and passion for hockey will come into play.
“Our philosophy is that we want good people first and guys that are committed to playing for this organization and for this city,” he said. “Our number one goal was finding the right people and then building off of that.”
This year’s team will have nine returning players alongside many new players, and together, the team is setting the standards high. “We want to make sure that we put a process in place for the players to improve every single day they come to the rink,” Anthony said. “And in following that process, the success on the scoreboard should come.”
As in year’s past, the Spud Kings promise a season filled with entertainment for fans.
“There’s a lot of great hockey to look forward to and a number of promotional dates,” Kevin Greene, President of the Idaho Falls Spud Kings said.
