Synopsis:
The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, is a comic opera in four acts. The opera is set on Figaro’s wedding day. The curtain rises on Figaro and his fiancé, Susanna, measuring out the new room that their master the Count Almaviva has given them. Susanna warns Figaro that the Count’s motivation for giving such a generous gift is to keep her nearby because he plans to seduce her and re-instate the abolished “prima nocta”. Figaro is furious, and vows to outsmart the Count. Together with Susanna, the Countess and the page boy Cherubino, they put in place a clever plan to teach the Count a lesson he won’t forget. Expect disguises, mistaken identities, betrayal, forgiveness and a lot of hiding in, under and around things. Based on Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’s 1784 play Le Mariage de Figaro, Mozart’s work remains a favorite in the operatic repertoire today.
