If you want to trust people with your money, you look at their histories, because for better or worse, we all leave paper trails. This is especially true for the folks in the banking world, where company histories read like story books. Some institutions spin yarns of high adventure, and some read like suspenseful mysteries.
Like all great Western banking institutions, Burley-based D.L. Evans Bank has its own tale to tell. It is a family history, rich with character, chaptered through steady growth and a theme of trust that dates back more than a century.
David Lloyd (D.L.) Evans started his own story set in his childhood home of Malad. He created a general store, developed a local power company and soon turned to real estate acquisition and lending. In 1904, he created D.L. Evans Bank in nearby Albion.
For the many decades that followed, the Bank slowly perfected the practice of personal, agricultural and business lending. Eventually, the scope of that practice expanded as new branches were added in several cities in the Southern Idaho area. D.L.’s grandson, Former Idaho Governor John V. Evans, Sr., served as the Bank’s President until his death last summer at age 89. A number of Evans’ prodigies now serve in the Bank’s daily operations, including current President and CEO, John V. Evans, Jr.
In June, 2014, D.L. Evans Bank went a few steps further in its growth with a successful purchase of Idaho Banking Company, adding four more branches in the Treasure Valley. In addition, the Bank opened a branch in Caldwell and also constructed a branch in Ammon.
Through its tremendous expansion over the last several years, the Bank never lost sight of the founder’s vision, ‘that banking is really just about one thing: helping people.’ The D.L. Evans Bank management and employees continue to carry that vision by giving back to their communities and volunteering many hours to various organizations. Today, D.L. Evans Bank continues to serve its communities by providing them with the best customer service and a wide range of personal and business banking products and services.
D.L. Evans Bank is now the largest state-chartered bank in Idaho with a total of 26 branches spread across Southern Idaho and over $1 billion in assets. Two of the 26 branches are located in the Idaho Falls area, one on 888 East 17th Street and the Ammon branch located on 2634 East Sunnyside Road. Ray Parkinson and Byron Wiscombe, Managers of these two branches, along with their staff, are focused on providing their customers with excellent customer service while being actively involved in the communities they serve.
