IDAHO FALLS -- Idaho National Laboratory Director Mark Peters will be taking a new position at Battelle Energy Alliance. Peters has been running the day-to-day operations at the lab since 2015. In his new position at Battelle he will work with all of Battelle’s national laboratories, including INL.
“I'm grateful to everyone at the laboratory, and throughout eastern Idaho, for their support and friendship," said Idaho National Laboratory Director Mark Peters in a statement. "Together we have accomplished so much, and I'm confident the best is yet to come, that INL's uniquely talented staff will continue to deliver world-class science and make the world a better place for everyone.”
Peters plans to stay in his current role as he works with Battelle to search for a new lab director, before transitioning to his new position.
During his time as lab director, Peters has overseen a number of major projects including the celebrations of INL’s 70th anniversary, the lab’s work with NuScale Power and Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems on a plan to build 12 small modular reactors at the DOE’s desert site west of Idaho Falls (reactors that will provide power to Idaho Falls), and so much more.
Peters' contribution will continue to make an impact for generations to come in the East Idaho region. Both he and his wife, Ann Marie, will be greatly missed by the Idaho Falls community.
