You’ve had a local burger before, but we can promise you that a burger and onion rings from Bacon & Bleu will have your family raving for weeks.

If you have roots in Shelley, then you probably remember the Lazy D's. Devon and Ronnie Kerbs are still frequently asked about their fry recipe years after closing their first restaurant. Now, the fries and many other favorites are back on their new menu and under a new name—Bacon & Bleu.

From Lazy D's to Bacon & Bleu

Lazy D's closed its doors in 2011 after the economy took a downturn and Devon Kerbs left for North Dakota to work in the oil fields. Kerbs spent the next 10 years working in the fields until he came across a Facebook post about the old Bushido’s Japanese Restaurant. He and his family decided then that now was the time to give their restaurant dreams a second chance.

Why not open the restaurant under the same name as the establishment in Shelley? The Kerbs not only wanted the restaurant to be a fresh start, but also to invite an elevated dining experience. So, instead they named the restaurant after their most famous burger, hinting at the tasteful service offered by going with Bleu, instead of the expected Blue in the name.

New favorites include the famous Bishop’s Beer, which is brewed daily, and the Bacon & Bleu Burger the establishment is named after. Bacon & Bleu serves zero frozen food. All entrees are served fresh with the delicious flavors of local ingredients.

A Family Affair

When dining at Bacon & Bleu you are likely to see some familiar faces. The husband-and-wife team often recruit their children and other relatives to help bring the food you love to your plate. The couple has a total of 11 children, the younger of whom have been enthusiastic about renovating and launching the family project.

“We work well together as a team,” said Devon Kerbs. “We ran the Virginia Theater together for 12 years and we directed shows. Ronnie was generally the stage director and I was a music director. So, we’ve worked as a team for a long time. It was more difficult for us to be apart when I was working in the oil field. When we came back together in the restaurant, it was pretty natural.”

A Taste of Success

Opening day of Bacon & Bleu didn’t go quite as expected for the Kerbs family. The restaurant was packed with excited customers, eager to welcome the new family restaurant into the area, but in the evening the family sold out of food and had to shut down for a day to gather supplies. Unprepared for such an enthusiastic response from the community, the Kerbs family is extraordinarily grateful for the support and is now ready to meet everyone’s needs.

In addition to their traditional sit-down service, the restaurant will also be offering pick-up service. Those interested in take-out can come into the restaurant and place their order or send a message on Facebook.
